Committee Charge & Composition

Description
CHARGE The committee solicits nominations and select recipients for the H and T Grants for the Archaeology of the Ancient Americas Award. This committee will award at least two annual grants to qualified archaeologists and scholars, both early career and senior, whose research promises transformative contributions to the understanding of ancient Latin American cultures. Over a three-year period, donors have indicated at least half the value of the grants will be made to US or Canadian citizens and at least half the value of the grants should be made to applicants applying within 5 years of receiving the PhD or Licenciado degree. COMMITTEE COMPOSITION The committee will be composed of one chair; three members of SAA; plus one member from the Institute for Andean Studies who is also a current member of SAA. All appointees will have impressive field and collections experience in the archaeology of Latin America. Committee members should be academic/professional archaeologists from university or research institutions with experience in diverse areas of Latin America. Half the committee will be based outside of the US and Canada. The Treasurer and Executive Director of SAA will be Ex officio members of this committee.
