Sponsored by the SAA, the Council of Councils is an annual meeting of national, regional, state, and local councils representing professional archaeologists (and of archaeological societies in states where the avocationals and professionals do not maintain separate organizations). The goals of the Council of Councils are to foster communication and cooperation among the roughly 40 active professional councils in the country, and to do the same between the SAA and the councils.
